Grants - Funds Available for Sea Turtle Conservation

We have reached our maximum amount of inquiries and proposals for 2011 and will accept new letters of inquiry beginning February 15, 2012. —Thank you.

Save the Turtles, Inc. is offering grants - funding in the amounts of $500 to $1,000 for the direct protection of sea turtles on critical nesting habitat/beach areas. Our focus is assisting community-based projects and/or grass root projects that are currently protecting sea turtles. A small community in the formative stages of developing a program may also inquire.

Projects that provide economic benefit to a local community will receive priority consideration.

Grant Requirements

  • Project must involve direct protection of sea turtles in a nesting habitat area.
  • Have bank account under organization's name (if you do not yet have one, your organization will be considered contingent upon opening an account).
  • Operate as a NGO/ non-profit status.
  • Adhere to best practices in conservation and sustainability.
  • Ability to provide three references familiar with your work: include phone numbers and e-mail addresses.
  • Accountability: provide follow up information and data mid-way and upon project’s completion demonstrating the benefit of our grant.

If your project fulfills all of the above requirements, then proceed to steps 1 & 2.

Step 1. Send us a brief (maximum 300 words) e-mail inquiry. Include a description of the project and its goals. Identify your position and length of time with this project or any other project. Provide your phone number and email address.

Step 2. After submitting your inquiry, wait for a response from our staff. You will be notified within 2-4 weeks if you have been selected to submit a proposal.

If chosen to submit a proposal, you will then be asked to answer the following questions:

  1. Include official name of organization, mission statement, location of project, year organization started and website address.
  2. Identify the needs for your project: include necessary activities such as patrolling the beach, amount of day and night hours, number of people needed, amount of miles/km. of nesting beach, maintaining a hatchery, cleaning beach, etc.
  3. Briefly identify the community’s involvement and benefits to the community.
  4. Name the community, government or environmental organizations which support your efforts.
  5. List additional staff, their experience and qualifications.
  6. Identify timeline for project. Include means of monitoring and evaluating success.
  7. Include a budget itemizing how grant money will be utilized for each activity.
  8. Further documentation may be requested.
