While touring on the river, be ready to be surrounded with a cacophony of jungle
sounds and a visual extravaganza of animals, birds and reptiles in this lush rainforest.
Bird watchers from all over the world come to this area to see oropendolas, toucans,
rosa spoon bills, parrots, hummingbirds, herons, egrets and countless other species.
You will also see large crocodiles and caimans slumbering along the banks and
the amazing Jesus Christ Lizard, so named because it walks across the water. As
you gaze into the jungle, you will see the spider and howler monkeys leaping from
one tree to another and a sloth, perhaps one with a baby holding tight to their
mother. Surrounded by exotic flora and fauna, you might behold the magic of the
blue Morpho butterfly. For an amazing experience, ask your captain to travel to
a smaller river branch or canal, then with the motor off, listen and immerse yourself
in an incredible jungle experience.
Within the jungle are a
great variety of frogs including the poison arrow frogs and many other amphibians.
Jaguars can be heard deep in the jungle and on rare occasions can be seen swimming
across the river. Of course there are countless snakes, interesting insects, bats
and a much closer look at the monkeys. A guide should accompany visitors on any
jungle trails. Although mosquito repellent is necessary, this intimate rendezvous
with nature is awe-inspiring.
